The Chore Coat

I’ve always been obsessed with the French chore coat. To me, it is an extremely versatile item and is representative of a utilitarian, blue collar approach to apparel. This is a simple yet elegant garment, durably constructed with natural materials, meant to be worn for many years. Of course I had to make my own.

I created the jacket at home, combining the pattern from an existing chore coat I already owned and a jacket block I had made in university.

I looked at tons of vintage chore jackets online to piece together an accurate replica.

I bought fabric from Etsy – Global Organic Textile Standard certified, 100% cotton from India. The garment was sewn on an old Simplicity machine, and I finished the buttonholes by hand.
